This small stool, too small for human use as a stool, was kept by an Ewe person to accommodate an ancestor, resident in the spirit world. In this way the Ewe facilitate communication with the spirit world, their own ancestors, who, they believe, are instrumental in determining their own fate, controlling their own life here on Earth.
