Beschreibung: This is an exquisite and unique example of an Omdurman or Baggara doll. Its elongated body is adorned with an array of various glass beads and hundreds of Heishi vulcanite disc beads. The doll wears a bark-cloth skirt (which is very soft) also decorated with a variety of symbolic ritual elements. Considering tribal attribution, this one may come from the Omdurman people of Sudan, or have associations with their neighbors including the Baggara. Examples like this doll are exceptional representations of women dressed in traditional costumes. Women among these societies are usually adorned with beaded jewelry including necklace, earrings, anklets, armlets, bells, cloth, (as displayed on this doll). The ritual uses of these dolls are not known. Doll is composed with a scented wood (possibly aromatic Dukan wood). This is a highly embellished specimen with; shells, bells, metal and chains attached to an amulet pouch.
